Prime Minister (PM) Charlot Salwai has expressed appreciation on behalf of the Government and the people of Vanuatu to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its ongoing support and increased assistance.

He said China’s contributions have significantly aided Vanuatu’s socio-economic development.

PM Salwai noted the long-standing and flourishing Sino-Vanuatu relationship, which began with the establishment of formal diplomatic ties 42 years ago on March 26, 1982.

“Based on the ‘One-China Policy’ as its cornerstone, our relations feature mutual respect, solidarity, noninterference, and cooperation between developing countries. These relations have remained cordial and mutually beneficial,” he said.

Salwai acknowledged China as a true friend, recognising its support in achieving Vanuatu’s development aspirations and providing emergency relief and recovery assistance during Tropical Cyclones (TCs) Judy, Kevin, and Lola.

“Given the strong partnership and robust manner in which our relations have been achieved, we anticipate that they will withstand all manner of calamities, both natural and circumstantial,” he added.

Looking ahead, PM Salwai is optimistic for continued fruitful outcomes from the partnership between Vanuatu and China.
