The Government and its partners in the Vanuatu Aviation Investment Project (VAIP) are committed to providing regular updates about construction works at the country’s three main airports.
At Bauerfield, the contractors China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation JV have made great progress in establishing the laydown and storage facility and are continuing to undergo calibration and equipment checks.
So far, they have achieved 100% of preliminary and general preparatory works, 79% of pre-construction phase and 33% airside construction.
The first report provides an update on where things are at in terms of the next steps at Bauerfield; works currently underway; a project overview, key milestones due and a progress tracker, which altogether provides stakeholders and the public in general key updates not only for their information, but also to help them plan their own work schedules from now until the project is concluded by early 2019.
Apart from Bauerfield, works to overlay Santo’s Pekoa’s airport is being concluded this week and the contractors – CCECC JV will be demobilizing soon in order to direct their full attention onto Bauerfield.
VAIP is funded by the World Bank through a loan of over Vt6 billion.
The Vanuatu Project Management Unit (VPMU) provides management oversight of the project, while Airports Vanuatu Ltd (AVL) provides technical support – complimenting GHD, as the main consulting engineers.
